About The Dragon

Jenn Haines graduated from the University of Guelph with one goal: to create the kind of comics and games store she would want to shop in, and Guelph was the city in which she wanted to do it. Thus began her dedication to providing a safe, welcoming space for all customers, especially families. Now, 20 years later, The Dragon has received numerous awards, recognizing this dedication to retail excellence and community.

The Dragon opened its doors in 1998 at 123 Wyndham St. North. After just a year and a half, we moved to 3 Wyndham St. North (next to the Cornerstone) and stayed there for 10 years.

In 2009, we moved into Old Quebec Street into a much bigger space, which allowed us to expand areas like graphic novels, and board games, while shrinking our anime rentals.
In 2011, we moved into our current home in the mall. We opened a pop-up shop briefly in 2014, which was followed by an expansion of our main location.
In November 2016, we opened a second location in the South End of Guelph. The South location closed August of 2022.
Most, recently, in June 2018, we opened our third location in Milton, Ontario!
The Dragon, and its owner Jenn, and manager Amy, are recipients of numerous awards, recognizing excellence in retail and the community. This includes the extremely prestigious Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailing award, which recognizes the best comic stores in the world, the CanGift Retailer of Distinction award, recognizing the best retailers in Canada, and, in 2023, was nominated for the Guelph Chamber of Commerce Awards of Excellence in the category of “difference maker”.
The Dragon is a proud participant in Free Comic Book Day since the 2007, a member of ComicsPRO (of which Jenn is the President) and GAMA, a supporter of the CBLDF and Hero Initiative, and the founder of Downtown Guelph Trick-or-Treating.
